Medical Business Specialist
If you enjoy working with people and have an interest in learning medical language skills, keyboarding and computer applications for the medical business office, this program is designed to provide a good foundation and many options for responsible career entry positions in related health services.
Communication courses cover letter writing skills, verbal communication, telephone and office triage. You will gain confidence in understanding medical terms and their application to general and specialty practices, pharmacology, laboratory medicine, and a knowledge of medical reports.
You will learn to maintain patient/medical records, filing systems, process computerized insurance claims utilizing coding references, and how to schedule patient appointments effectively. Accounts receivable/payable and billing practices incorporating specialized software are also covered. Medical Law and Ethics as they relate to the office specialist provides insight into importance of confidentiality and required documentation for the medical record.
