Medical Insurance Biller
Students in the Medical Insurance Biller Program are trained in several skill areas required of billing specialists for career entry positions in medical offices, clinics, and health care centers. Theory and practical application of billing concepts are integrated throughout the program.
Classes in medical and insurance terminology prepare students in the language skills required to understand physician services and medical diagnoses. Billing students learn diagnostic and procedural coding and techniques to correctly process and submit insurance claims for all major insurance carriers.
Students also learn to process computerized and manual insurance claims utilizing the ICD-9-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding references. Software utilized for computerized billing provides solutions for claims processing, managing rejected claims, resubmission of claims, and troubleshooting uncollectibles. In addition, medical insurance billing students have exposure to both manual and computerized accounting, daily and month-end balancing techniques.
By proficient handling of medical claims covered by third party carriers, a medical billing specialist contributes significantly to the cash flow essential to medical business operations. The skills provided by billing specialists are in high demand.
